Welcome to my VOCALOID shrine! This is a dedicated part of my website to vocal synths (mostly Vocaloid), where I will spew out my passion into one little page. This page will contain all sorts of things Vocaloid related, including my favorites, and even a little vocal synth history. Vocaloid/vocal synths have been my special interest since I was 9 years old. The illustration to the right is by iXima, and is a placeholder until I can get around for making illustrations for this page.

The burning question: What even IS Vocaloid???

At its core, VOCALOID (ボーカロイド, Bōkaroido) is a singing voice synthesizer. Vocaloid started as an experimental project. Developed by Yamaha Corporation in 2003, Vocaloid is a software that allows users to input lyrics and melodies, which are then sung by synthetic voices, called "voicebanks." These voicebanks are created by recording the voices of real people and turning them into digital samples that can be manipulated to perform a wide range of vocal expressions. Many of the voicebanks have been released and sold for use within Vocaloid. The most popular Vocaloid in the west is definitely Hatsune Miku.
Vocaloid works by combining recorded phonemes (the smallest units of sound in a language) into a full song. The user types in the lyrics, enters the melody through a piano roll interface, and the software converts this data into a synthesized singing audio. The user can adjust various parameters such as pitch, timing, vibrato, and breathiness to achieve a desired performance.
Initially, the Vocaloid software was only available in English with the first Vocaloids; Leon, Lola and Miriam, as well as Japanese with Meiko and Kaito, sold by Crypton Future Media, but made by Yamaha. In Vocaloid 3 support for other languages was introduced, such as Chinese for Luo Tianyi, Yuezheng Ling, Xin Hua and Yanhe; Spanish for the Vocaloids Bruno, Clara and Maika; and Korean for SeeU. Numerous voicebanks have been created for use with the Vocaloid synthesizer technology. Each voicebank is marketed as "singer in a box." These voicebanks are often represented through moe anthropomorphism.
Vocaloids are now frequently promoted as virtual idols, some of these avatars have even performed at live concerts as projected figures on stage. For example, Hatsune Miku even performed at Coachella.
However, Vocaloid isn't the only vocal synthesizer out there. There are many other popular vocal synthesizers such as UTAU, SynthV, CeVIO, etc.

My Favorite Vocaloid Songs

マトリョシカ (Matryoshka)
ハチ
feat. 初音ミク, GUMI

マトリョシカ/Matryoshka/Матрёшка is another one of those very nostalgic songs for me. I listened to it a lot as a small lad and I randomly hyperfixate on this song every now and then. I absolutely love it. Despite what people say about it having no meaning, I will continue to theorize.

おちゃめ機能 -Full ver.-
ゴジマジP
feat. 重音テト

おちゃめ機能/Ochame Kinou (I will always think of it as Fukkireta by the way) will always hold a special place in my heart. It has since I was a really small child, I would listen to it for hours on loop. It was also the reason I had a Teto obsession.

狐の嫁入り
MASA WORKS DESIGN
feat. GUMI, 初音ミク (Remaster)

狐の嫁入り/The Fox's Wedding is definitely one of those songs where you've got to get over the lyrics to enjoy it, or just don't look at the lyrics at all... but it goes so unfathomably hard! I won't ever forget the first time I heard this, nor will I forget blasting this in my headphones in 7th grade at lunch.

『わっれっちゃう。』
SLAVE.V-V-R
feat. 可不

『わっれっちゃう。』/"Ultra Rupture." is such a good song!!! It's really catchy, and I don't really have as much to say about besides it really carries my sessions of sitting alone at lunch when I blast it in my earbuds... it goes so hard...!

首無演舞狂
MASA WORKS DESIGN
feat. GUMI, 初音ミク

首無演舞狂/Beheading Dance is another song you might have to get over the lyrics/theme of, just like any other Masa song lol.. but the music is SOOO GOOD!! KAKAKOKOKAKKOUKAKKOUKAKKOU KAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKKAAKAKA

愛して愛して愛して
きくお
feat. 初音ミク

愛して愛して愛して/Love Me Love Me Love Me is one of the most popular Vocaloid songs of all time, and it is definitely deserving of it. Holy banger. I'd listen to this all the time and it was one of the songs that got me seriously into Vocaloid!!!
