Unlike the first engine, which relied on analyzing the human voice, Vocaloid 2 generated its results using vocal samples. Both the synthesis engine and user interface were completely redesigned, and Japanese Vocaloids came with a dedicated Japanese interface. Because of time limitations, Vocaloid 2 skipped a public beta test, unlike the earlier engine. Instead, bugs were resolved through patches based on user feedback after the release.
